Mark: A Commentary in the Wesleyan Tradition is unavailable, but you can change that!

If we only had Mark, we would know very little of Jesus’ life before he began a short one-year ministry. Mark tells us nothing about Jesus’ birth or early life. Mark begins his Jesus story with the announcement by a prophetic figure in the wilderness, John the Baptizer.

the disciples are able to fulfill these commands in their own strength. Discipleship in Mark is pictured as a human impossibility (10:27); holy living is possible only through the power and presence of God. But Jesus’ disciples still follow, still are committed to Jesus and his way, still trust in his promise that God’s good purposes will ultimately prevail for them and for God’s entire created order.
